Nearly half of households (HH) west of the Rockies have no faith involvement at
all. According to Percept's Ethos projection, the national average for household "no
faith involvement" is 35 percent, yet this level varies significantly across U.S.
regions and statesyou'll have a more difficult time finding someone in Mississippi
not involved with a faith (22%, or one-in-five households) than you will in California
(47%, or one-out-of-two households). More extreme "no faith involvement" occurs
in local areas, where common demographics and lifestyle characteristics drive the lack of
involvement. For instance, the Marina District of San Francisco (ZIP code 94123) has the
distinction of being the most "faithless", with 62 percent of its households
likely not involved with a faith. |

Look at the No Faith Involvement level for your ministry area, listed on
your 10 Basic Facts report. As you reflect on the percentage of households that likely
have no faith involvement, how does it compare to your own perception, ie., is it higher
or lower than you believed? What are some possible reasons for the lack of faith
involvement? Do you think it's likely that some people who would claim a religious
affiliation might still express they are not involved with their faith? |
|
 |
Is there an opportunity for your church ministry represented in the lack of
faith involvement in you community? Is there a potential threat to your church ministry
implied in this finding? |
